How
I solve the "Small Business Technology Dilemma" as well as the related "Home
Technology Dilemma" and "Macintosh Dilemma".
What is the Small Business Technology Dilemma?
In order to keep up with the competition, all businesses today must make use of
technology to increase their productivity, especially computer technology. Most
businesses will take advantage of technology consulting and services to
recommend, develop, deploy, and support their technology solutions. However,
small businesses face tough choices when it comes to their technology needs.
Being small, their choices for technology consulting and services are very
limited.
Most technology consulting companies cater to larger businesses and do not
serve the small business market. Of the companies that do serve the small
business market, most of those are computer stores or other businesses where
technology consulting is a small part of their overall work. While they may be
very good at selling computers or Internet access, they often do not have the
overall expertise that many small businesses require. Unfortunately, this lack
of expertise can often lead small businesses into a variety of difficult
technology problems, at which point the company is often left without qualified
help.

The lack of consulting companies available leaves small businesses turning to
individuals for help with their technology. Unfortunately, there also is a lack
of qualified individuals available to small businesses. Of the professionals
that are qualified to do the type of consulting work that small businesses
require, many hold full-time jobs with other companies. Their ability to help
small businesses must fit around their regular work schedule, and their small
business clients take back-seat in priority.
Faced with this shortage of qualified help, many small businesses end up
enlisting the help of the office computer "expert" or a relative of an employee
who "is a computer genius". While these part-time technology helpers can be
useful for certain tasks, they usually do not have the knowledge and experience
to help a small business for very long. As well, the office computer "expert"
usually has other responsibilities, which can cause serious productivity issues
for their normal job or their technology role. The "computer genius" relatives
often have dubious credentials at best, and since they do not usually have a
vested interest in the business, may not be as reliable as desired.
Finally, many small businesses that can not find qualified technology
consulting and services will simply put off making the investment into new
technologies or finding ways to make better use of existing technologies.
Unfortunately, this only hurts the small business. As their competitors
continue to improve their productivity, the small business is left at a
competitive disadvantage.
Marcel Brown to the Rescue!
As an independent technology consultant with a focus on small business, I am
able to solve the Small Business Technology Dilemma. With my knowledge and
experience, I have the technology expertise that small businesses are looking
for. Technology consulting is my full-time job, so I can give my clients the
priority they deserve. And since I'm independent, I can focus entirely on my
client's needs without the distraction of computer sales or other
non-consulting work.
What is the Home Technology Dilemma?
Home users of technology face a very similar problem to that of small
businesses. Who do they turn to for their technology needs? They face the same
issues with companies and individuals that small businesses do (see above),
only they usually have even fewer choices available! What help they can get is
often impersonal and/or of poor quality.
Fortunately, I am able to solve the Home Technology dilemma as well. I have
extensive experience with the technology that is used by people in the home and
home office. I also treat my home clients with the same respect as my small
business clients. In addition, where many computer stores require their
customers to bring their computers into the shop for any type of service, I
gladly make house calls!
What about the Macintosh Dilemma?
Small business users of Macintosh computers face an additional dilemma. The
availability of professional Macintosh consulting and services is generally
very poor, especially outside of large cities. Many small business that use
Macintosh computers are self-supporting, making use of their employees who use
the computers as part of their jobs. While this is a testament to the
user-friendliness of the Macintosh platform, this self-support is often not
enough for more complex issues, especially issues involving cross-platform
integration or cooperation. When Macintosh-using businesses are able to bring
in professional technology help, oftentimes the consultant is much more fluent
in PC platforms, with only a rudimentary knowledge of the Macintosh, if any at
all.
Many home users of Macintosh computers are also self-supporting, but when
professional help is needed, again it is usually much tougher to find help.
When Macintosh help can be located, the individuals are generally other
Macintosh users who have become proficient with their machines. While these
individuals can be helpful, They are not technology professionals, so their
knowledge can be limited.
I am a technology professional with a great amount of knowledge and experience
not just with PC platforms, but with the Macintosh as well. In fact, my
knowledge of the Macintosh platform may be among the absolute best in the St.
Louis area. My level of overall information technology knowledge and experience
combined with my Macintosh knowledge is exceptionally rare in the technology
industry. Not only am I able to work with Macintosh computers in Macintosh-only
environments, but I can work with and make the Macintosh work in cross-platform
environments of just about any kind.
I'm a Problem Solver!
